Berkshire Hathaway Maryland Cove Point LNG plant on track to exit outage, LSEG data (updated)

UPDATE 1-Berkshire Hathaway Maryland Cove Point LNG plant on track to exit outage, LSEG data

Adds details in bullet points

By Scott DiSavino

- US energy firm Berkshire Hathaway Energy's Cove Point LNG export plant in Maryland was on track to take in more natural gas on Monday as it started to exit an annual maintenance outage, according to data from financial firm LSEG.

  • Berkshire Hathaway Energy shut the plant around September 19 for the maintenance outage.

  • Gas flows to Cove Point were on track to rise to 0.8 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Monday after almost no gas flowed to the facility from September 19-October 11, according to LSEG data.

  • Officials at the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

  • The plant can turn around 0.8 bcfd of gas into LNG. One billion cubic feet is enough gas to supply about five million US homes for a day.

  • US LNG export plants typically shut for planned maintenance in the spring or autumn when global demand for gas for heating or cooling is lower than during the peak winter and summer months.

  • Berkshire Hathaway Energy is a unit of US multinational conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway BRKa.N. It operates Cove Point and owns 75% of the facility. The other 25% is owned by units of Brookfield Asset Management BAM.N.
